Parental Insights
Character.AI's opt-in weekly email summary for parents, launched March 2025. It shows how much time a teen spent on the platform and which AI characters they chatted with most — but not the conversation content itself. The critical limitation: the teen has to add the parent's email themselves. A teen who does not want monitoring can simply not set it up.
If you are trying to supervise your child's use of Character.AI, this is currently the only tool the platform offers. Because the teen controls enrollment, the only reliable approach is to set it up together and check it is active. For a broader picture of total time spent, your phone's built-in screen-time controls are more reliable than anything the app itself provides.
Is “Parental Insights” something to worry about?
Good news — "Parental Insights" is a protective feature, not a threat. The catch with platform safety features is that most ship OFF by default, or only half-configured.
- Turn it on deliberately and re-check it after big app updates — settings occasionally reset or move.
