Parent-Managed Account

WhatsApp's under-13 account type (launched March 2026) where a parent sets up and controls the child's account from their own phone. Limited to messaging and calling — no Meta AI, no disappearing messages, no Channels.

How kids use it

Linked via QR code and gated by a parent PIN. The right path if a younger kid needs WhatsApp because that's where the family communicates.

Is “Parent-Managed Account” something to worry about?

Good news — "Parent-Managed Account" is a protective feature, not a threat. The catch with platform safety features is that most ship OFF by default, or only half-configured.

  • Turn it on deliberately and re-check it after big app updates — settings occasionally reset or move.
  • Find the full setup walkthrough for the platform setup guides
