WhatsApp adds parental controls for teens: group notifications and Meta AI settings

By The Rundown  ·  EditorWorth watching

WhatsApp has launched a new set of optional parental controls for teens aged 13–17. Parents can set privacy defaults for their teen's account — such as who can add them to groups — and teens need a parent-set PIN to relax any setting. Parents also receive notifications when their teen joins or leaves a group, and can choose their teen's Meta AI experience, including a stricter 'Limited Content' option. Personal messages and calls stay end-to-end encrypted; parents see settings, not chat content.

What to do

Check whatsapp.com/parentalcontrols for WhatsApp's setup walkthrough — controls are optional and both parent and teen need to opt in.
