Discord launches age-based protections globally for teen accounts
Discord has launched age-based protections globally, automatically placing accounts into an age group based on signals like account age and server history — never message content. Teens are blocked by default from age-restricted content, spaces, and settings, while still keeping access to messaging, voice calls, and regular servers. Over 90% of users are expected to land in an age group without any extra verification step; users who want access to adult-only areas may be asked to confirm their age using options Discord says won't require a government ID or selfie.
What to do
Check discord.com/safety-family-center — Family Center lets parents see a teen's friends list and recent activity, and control who can send their teen friend requests. Both parent and teen need to opt in; parents cannot see message content.
