Is noplace safe for kids?

High risk

Every profile is fully public — no private mode exists — and any stranger can DM your teen directly; there are no parental controls whatsoever.

What to do

Age 16+ only, and only with a direct conversation about public profiles and open stranger contact. Not appropriate for ages 13-15: the fully public profile structure means there is no setting a parent can turn on to protect a younger teen.

What it actually is

noplace is a text-only social network built specifically for Gen Z, pitched as a modern MySpace with profile pages, interest badges, mood status, a top-friends list, and a real-time post feed. It briefly hit #1 on the App Store in July 2024 and retains an active teen user base. Unlike most social platforms, it has no private-profile option: every account is visible and reachable by any user on the platform, and anyone can initiate a direct message with your teen without any prior connection.

There are no privacy settings on noplace

noplace does not allow users to make their profile private. Every account is fully visible and contactable by anyone on the platform — there is no toggle to change this.

What your teen can do if contacted by a stranger

  1. Block: Tap the person's profile → tap the three dots (⋯) → Block — prevents them from seeing your teen's profile or messaging them
  2. Report: Tap the person's profile → tap the three dots (⋯) → Report — sends a report to the noplace moderation team
  3. Unfriend: Removes someone from their connections list

What to check periodically

  • Their connections list (should be real-life friends only)
  • Their direct message inbox for unknown senders
  • Their public profile post history to see what they are sharing openly

The conversation to have

  • Explain that everyone — including adults they don't know — can see their full profile and send them messages
  • Agree that they will tell you if any adult they don't know contacts them
  • Set a rule: only connect with people they have met in person
