Low riskRated Low · How we rate
Just the companion app for a Steam account — low risk by itself; what matters is the gaming account's friends and chat, not this app.

Steam Mobile is the phone companion to Valve's PC game store: it approves logins, handles purchases, and adds two-factor security, which actually makes an account safer. By itself it's low-risk. The real supervision question is the underlying Steam account — its friends, chat, and library — which our Steam setup guidance covers, not this utility app.
Steam Mobile includes robust security and notification controls:
- Two-Factor Authentication & Steam Guard: Enable in account settings. Required for sign-in confirmation and item trade/market approval.
- Notification Preferences: Customize which notifications (wishlists, sales, comments, trades, friends, discussions) appear—disable non-essential ones to reduce distractions.
- Authorized Devices: Review and revoke device access from the app's device management menu if a device is lost or shared.
- Multi-Account Support: Parents can keep their account separate from any child accounts by managing logged-in devices and signing out of shared devices.
- Parental Controls on PC: Use the Steam desktop client's parental controls (Family Library & Parental Controls) to restrict game categories and set purchase limits—these sync with the mobile app.
