Is PolyBuzz safe for kids?
High risk
An 18-and-over AI chat app where romantic companion personas dominate — and where the age gate is a birthdate any teen can type themselves.

What to do
Not suitable for under-18s. The app's own terms bar minors worldwide; the only effective enforcement is the device-level app store age gate, not anything inside PolyBuzz itself.

What it actually is
PolyBuzz lets users chat with AI-generated characters, the majority framed as romantic companions or relationship scenarios. The company's Terms of Service state the platform is for users 18 and over and "strictly prohibits minors worldwide"; age verification is a self-reported birthdate entered on first launch — the app stores the date, and users cannot change it after submitting. The FAQ simultaneously describes a "Teen Mode" meant to keep content age-appropriate for children, while the Terms state the service is "not designed for minors" — these two positions sit unresolved in official documentation, and no parental controls exist that show a parent what their teen is discussing.
Checking if PolyBuzz is on a device

What PolyBuzz offers parents
PolyBuzz has no parent monitoring features. The FAQ mentions a "Teen Mode" meant to keep content age-appropriate for children, but describes no settings a parent can configure. There is no activity dashboard, no usage summary, and no way to see which characters an account has chatted with or what was said.
Note: the privacy policy (last updated June 1, 2026) states that precise geolocation and uploaded images are collected for AI training purposes. This is backend data collection, not a visible location-sharing feature.
Device-level controls (the only effective option)
On iPhone/iPad (Screen Time)
- Settings → Screen Time → Content & Privacy Restrictions → turn on
- Content Restrictions → Apps → set to 17+ to block 18-rated apps
- Or: iTunes & App Store Purchases → Installing Apps → Don't Allow
On Android (Google Family Link)
- Family Link app → select your child → App activity
- Find PolyBuzz → tap Block
- Or: Controls → Filters on Google Play → set age restriction to block 18+ rated apps
Conversation to have
