A Twitter-style app with unusually strong user-side moderation controls — but it's public and open by default, with adult content present.

| Parental visibility | Limited |
Bluesky is a fast-growing Twitter alternative with genuinely good tooling: custom moderation lists, content labels, and feed controls. The caveats: it's public-first with open signup, adult content exists behind self-applied labels, and replies or DMs from strangers are possible. It's one of the more manageable platforms for an older teen if the moderation settings are turned up — but it isn't a walled garden.
Moderation & Safety
- Use the "Muted Words" and "Muted Accounts" features to filter unwanted content and users
- Adjust reply settings to control who can reply to your posts (Public, Followers, Mentioned Users only)
- Enable "Block" or "Mute" on accounts that post harmful or unwanted content
- Review "Starter Packs" before following—they're community-curated and may vary in quality
Privacy & Visibility
- Profile can be set to private (limits who sees your posts)
- Be cautious sharing personal information on a public platform
- Consider a limited username/handle if concerned about real-name visibility
