What it actually is

YOLO lets users post anonymous questions to their friends via Stories, and friends answer publicly. It's designed for "positive feedback" but the anonymity feature—and the ability to hide behind an alias—makes bullying, mean comments, and harassment easier. The app offers a paid Pro tier for hints about message senders and exclusive games.

YOLO does not appear to offer granular parental controls or visibility settings. The app relies on user-level blocking and reporting. Parents should: (1) ask their teen to share their username or follow their YOLO account to monitor activity; (2) remind them to use the block and report features if they receive unkind messages; (3) discuss that "anonymity" encourages people to be meaner than they would face-to-face.
